Deceptive love dance, Rajrouj, 2018

What’s more painful to be decieved by your loved one or best friend?

This post is about Selda a young woman who fell in love with a young good looking man, Nejat. Their love started suddenly, but grew quickly and strongly.

They met by chance by the river. She was sitting on a boulder writing her memoirs. He was practicing his morning jog. Their eyes clung in an ethereal gaze for minutes. Although they were more or less 10 feet away from each other, their bodies and souls clutched togethe in the gaze. It was so intense that there was no distance visible between their souls. Their souls flew in one divine form thanking the creator for the devotion and love they suddenly started experiencing.

Their strong emotion grew and developed more and more. They were so much in tune. Every second they lived was pure love, passion, ecstacy, laughter and bliss. They read each other’s minds and finished each other’s words. They were in so much in love. It was an euphoria…..

Selda was having difficulty getting pregnant and this affected her confidence in herself. She started questioning herself and became paranoid. What worsened the situation is that Nejat started acting differently. He didn’t laugh at her jokes any more. He looked for every opportunity to return home late, and sought every chance to avoid her physically and emotionally. Because Selda was so much in love she didn’t want to believe the change she was observing. She was in denial.

Until one day she was checking the pockets of her husband’s jacket’s to take it to the dry cleaner, she found a velvet gift box. She opened it to find a necklace of a butterfly. She got so happy and starting jumping with ecstasy that her Nejat remembered their anniversary and brought her a gift. That evening she prepared a wonderful dinner and planed the moment she would give her gift to Nejat, a very nice expensive watch.

At dinner, while serving him soup Nejat, unlike him, started drinking it right away. She asked “you could have waited for me so that we start together”. He replied that he was too hungry to wait. They drank wine and ate exquisite dinner Selda spent the whole day preparing. After dinner Selda brought her gift and gave it to Nejat. He loved it, kissed her on the cheek and wore it. Like a child in anticipation for her gift Selda asked “where is mine?” Nejat answered “what yours?” “didn’t we promise each other last anniversary we would not get each other gifts any more? Nejat added. “

Selda didn’t believe him and thought he was pulling her leg. So she went on like a child asking him again and again for her gift. Especially since she found it in his pocket. After many exchanges from Selda begging him to stop kidding her, he replied “if you really insist on receiving a gift, take my credit card and buy whatever you want.” That moment Selda felt dizzy all of sudden and almost lost balance. She couldn’t believe what she heard. She couldn’t sleep that night and wondered what happened to the love and passion that was between them and where it has gone?

Days went by but Nejat’s coming home late and missing dinners increased and Selda started to hear from the grapevines that her husband was having an affair with another woman for over a year.

She went to confide in her best friend Hulya. Hulya had been her best friend for many years and worked with Nejat in the same company. When Selda asked her about the rumors about her husband, Hulya confirmed them. Actually, she advised Selda to end her marriage because she ought to be strong and ought to have more pride rather than accept her husband’s cheating on her. Selda refused and told her she would not end her marriage because of another woman. And that real love is when one fights to keep it and make it grow more with love, time, trust, and care just like a flower.

But the rumors didn’t stop until one day Selda got a message on her phone telling her that if she really cared to know where her husband was she should go to an address sent to her phone.

Selda went and rang the bell. The door opened and to her surprise the person who was behind the door was Hulya. And the butterfly necklace she found in her husband’s jacket’s pocket was around her neck. She pushed the door and gushed in the apartment to find her husband in the bedroom half naked under the covers…..

Now what’s more painful the cheating of her husband and love of her life or the cheating of her best friend?
